Açaí has received increasing attention in the Amazon and around the world. Nowadays, açaí is considered a superfruit, still receiving the title of “black gold” for being one of the most nutritious fruits on earth.
Açaí Berry oil is one of the most potent antioxidant oils in the world and has more antioxidants than mangos, prunes, pomegranates, cranberries and blueberries. In fact, it has the highest per unit value of antioxidant power (ORAC) of any edible fruit in the world. The small berries have been prized for generations by native cultures for the healing and energizing sustenance they provide both as an edible fruit and nutritious oil extract.
The increase in consumption and these positive names are due to the advance of scientific research on açaí, which is increasingly confirming what Amazonian people already knew: the solid therapeutic potential of this fruit, rich in antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, fiber and low in sugars.
Scientific name Euterpe Olerácea, or popularly açaí, is the fruit of a ubiquitous palm in lowland and flooded areas of the Amazon region, with an average height between 20 and 30 meters and multiple stems that support around 3 to 8 bunches of fruits, with each bunch having up to 900 açaí fruits. Açaí fruits are purple to black and small in size. Açaí contains a seed that corresponds to about 85% of the size of the fruit.
Long before it fell in favor of scientists and the population of other world regions, the fruit was consumed mainly by rural people in the Amazon region. The tradition was inherited from Amazonian indigenous groups and has been adapted into modern culture through soft drinks, ice cream, with or without sugar, sometimes thickened with water or tapioca flour. Açaí can also accompany fish, dried shrimp and meat, playing a prominent role in local cuisine.
Açaí is considered a food-medicine that the population uses against gastrointestinal problems, worms, coagulation disorders, skin and organ aging, anemia, anti-malaria, and as an energy drink using not only the fruit but also the trunk bark and palm leaves.
Organic by nature, the fruit has a growing production chain that can serve different segments of the Rainforest economy. In addition to the importance of food security for the region's population, the extraction of açaí has become one of many primary sources of income. Considering the potential and the high consumption of Açaí in the region, adopting good practices is essential to ensure the sustainability of the production chain.
Açaí has also been conquering the beauty market, mainly because it is a source of anthocyanins, a substance also presents in red wine, which gives its purple color. Açaí acts as a powerful antioxidant, fighting free radicals that cause skin aging. The oil easily penetrates into the skin, acting as an excellent emollient and moisturizer. Thus, today açaí is one of the most promising stars in the world cosmetics industry.
Several recent studies have demonstrated the positive biological effects of açaí. Due to the chemical composition of this fruit, which is very rich in compounds, Açaí brings health benefits such as polyphenols, oleic acid, palmitic and omega 9.

How is sustainable Açaí cultivated?
We source our açaí from Pará, the largest state producer of açaí in Brazil and around 80% of the process done by small family producers.
Combining their knowledge with training and monitoring, traditional riverside peoples cultivate açaí and manage the soil with sustainable techniques that guarantee the longevity of the production. The families acknowledge that the forest is vital for the cultivation of açaí, which is why they protect it and avoid deforestation.
Harvest is during winter, where the fruit is washed and stored in large baskets produced by the community's women. They then travel throughout the rivers to bring the fruits to be processed into pulp in local co-ops. We mechanically process the pulp for our formulas to generate a physical separation of the oil from the pulp, followed by filtering. It is a powerful dark color oil with high levels of Chlorophyll in its composition.
It is also a 100% added value to the cultural identity of the peoples of the Amazon forest.
